You have so many talents. I suppose we could make you court matchmaker, but then we also feel we should recognize you for introducing zucchini to Attolia. It is truly an extraordinary vegetable. Who could have guessed its projectile properties? It's almost as good as inkpots, by the way. Hmmm...Ornon has been suggesting celebrations in my honor recently. We think that by "celebrations" he means "punishment in the form of a public circus." Perhaps an Annual Zucchini Festival will quash his ideas? One of my ~~minions~~ reprobates, Emerald, is currently working on the problem so cookies can be sent. So they started a boat pool

Donned undies of goat wool

And off on their journey did go.

Calcifer gave a loud "meow,"

And took up his post in the prow.

Emerald put in his dish

All the fish he could wish

As on through the ocean they’d plow.

Aristogiton could not be left

Of his precious lamb Emerald bereft;

So he signed on as crew,

Brought his friend with him, too,

And as sailors they both proved quite deft.

Costis clambered adroitly aboard,

Crowding things with his armor and sword.

For his dear, darling Jade,

The Atlantic he'd wade

If he had to; for Jade he adored.

To the gunwales they loaded the gear,

Things they really did need to have near:

A compass and map,

And flippers to flap,

And binoculars through which to peer.

Rain joined them partway through the trip

Jumping from a balloon to the ship

"Best be careful, I think,

Not to sink in the drink

Or by circling sharks I'll be nipped."

Queen SparRo a pirate hat donned,

And carried a scepter, or wand,

That was tipped with a star;

And she roared loudly, "Arrrhhhh!

A bear in a ruffle came, too;

His dancing kept bumping the crew.

When they fell (and they did)

The Colossal Squid

Quickly brought her arms to the rescue.

Stenides, alas, wouldn't fit

In the boat; so he swam next to it.

He was in fighting trim

For a marathon swim

Which developed his biceps a bit.

The parrot squawked, "Look! There's a sign!"

So they followed the arrow and line.

"'Ohio or bust'

Is the motto for us!"

They left England and Greece far behind.

I'm A Failure

I miss Jade.

No, not miss-- I, I feel like half a person with her gone. Less. I feel like my soul is gone. How can one person be so much of you?

What did I do by sending her away? I must be three kinds of idiot to have let her go, to have made her go away. I told her I loved her... and then I broke her heart. And mine, but I deserved that.

Even Agape can tell. She told me that it wouldn't be fair of her to be with me when I love someone else.

And now we're both doomed to live separate lives apart-- no, she'll be happy with Stenides.

I don't think there's a feeling more crushing than watching the woman you love with another man, and knowing that you caused it.

So I am doomed to live my life apart from her. And that's fitting. I deserve it.

... Does anyone deserve this?

I first heard of you through our mutual friend, Jade, after she tried to set you up with our other mutual friend, Costis. I can understand why you wouldn't want to get involved with a man who may still be in love with your friend (though he looks less like the walking dead since she sent her last message by me).

But though I shouldn't have been reading his email, I couldn't help being intrigued by your friend's high praise of your wit, grace, and beauty. You sound like a charming person, and I would like to meet you, if you are willing. Can we meet in the wineshop after my shift of duty ends tomorrow?
